Hello Christine,

This is an interesting piece. There were many fraternal organizations which began in the mid 1800s. In fact there are over 200 different fraternities, most of which, like Freemasonry, had their own rituals, costumes and theatrical props. Most of them no longer exist.

A few, however, such as the International Order of Odd Fellows, and Knights of Pythias are still in existence.

I understand that the IORM (Improved Order of Red Men), which was begun in 1834 in Baltimore, Maryland, also still holds meetings.

Most of these fraternal organizations have declined in membership as the years have gone by.

As to which organization this Pewter Sun Staff belonged to, I'm sorry, Christine, I do not know.
