Masonic Deer Antler/Clock Earrings
The items in the attached photos belonged to my grandfather and great grandfather.
I assume that the one pendant is Masonic and there is also a 14k gold Shrine pin.
What I have absolutely no idea about are the two fobs and one pin with the antlered deer head with jeweled eyes and a clock face showing 11:00.
Can you shed some light on these objects?
Simon:
Marc, the square and compasses pendant typifies the wearer as a Freemason. The shrine pin is worn by a member of the Masonic Shrine Temple who is called a Noble of the Mystic Shrine, or a "Shriner".
I attempted to enlarge the Masonic deer antler earrings so everyone could see more of their details.
They are quite unique. I have never seen anything like them.
I was most struck, however, by the overall shape of the earrings as perhaps being an artistic rendition of a pair of Masonic blue slippers with the deer's antlers representing the thongs of the slipper/sandal.
The top of each earring begins with a Masonic blue background behind the clock. The clock says 11:00.
My assumption (and it is only an assumption) might be that "day" (life) goes by quickly. At 11:00 p.m., the day is nearly over.
As to the antlered deer, I cannot say. Perhaps the artist/jeweler was trying to personify that time, like a deer, moves swiftly and we must walk in the paths of righteousness before our life ends.
These earrings are quite special. Thanks for sharing them with us, Marc.
